Monthly Archives: February 2014

Do you see it?

HPIM3661     There is a stray cat around here.  Yesterday it was enjoying a long snooze in a sunny spot on the roof of the building across from us.  It sure is a pretty cat.  Nicest shade of red I’ve ever seen on a cat.

If my dogs liked cats, I’d be inviting this one in for sure.

You all have a good one and stay warm.

More cold weather. Today will look like 1963.

This icy weather isn’t new to us.  Check the record lows below.  I’d rather we had the record highs now.

Temperature History – Feb 27

Today Normal Record 2/27/2013
High 28° 43° 72° (1997) 48°
Low 24° -2° (1963) 35°

Temperature History – Feb 28

Today Normal Record 2/28/2013
High 21° 44° 67° (1976) 45°
Low 10° 24° -10° (1934) 31°

Fun? Not yet.

HPIM3583     I pity the pups. They are as sick of the snow-covered ground as we are.  Neither one wants to go outside for more than a minute or two.

Looks like we’re supposed to get snow today and Friday night.  Here’s the forecast for today.

WE ARE EXPECTING A LIGHT SNOWFALL EVENT TO OCCUR COINCIDENT WITH THE MORNING COMMUTE TOMORROW. GENERALLY AROUND AN INCH SHOULD FALL ACROSS THE NON-ADVISORY AREAS AND COULD GREATLY IMPACT THE MORNING COMMUTE AS THE SNOW WILL BEGIN TO STICK INSTANTLY TO ALL UNTREATED SURFACES. THE SNOW SHOULD END RELATIVELY QUICKLY FROM WEST TO EAST LATE TOMORROW MORNING.

IF YOU WILL BE DRIVING TOMORROW MORNING, BE PREPARED FOR SLIPPERY CONDITIONS AND REDUCED VISIBILITY. BE SURE TO LEAVE PLENTY OF ROOM BETWEEN YOUR VEHICLE AND THE ONE AHEAD OF YOU.

Oh fun…NOT.

Cabin fever cure…get out of the damned house!

Yes, I actually got out of the house today!  G and I went to a nearby mall for lunch and some retail therapy. We stayed there for hours, wandering through every store. I almost cried when we found my favorite store was gone. Coldwater Creek is no longer in that mall, we have to travel over South Mountain to another more distant mall to find one.  They are the only ones that have jeans that fit me right.

I should never go near stores. I spent more than she did. Again. Came home with bejeweled flip-flops and cute shoes for the conference in May.

We both feel better having gone out and away from home.

You all have a good one!

Uneffing believable…more effing snow.

I think I’ll quit reading weather forecasts and stay ignorant of what is to come.  Tonight the forecast is snow and 27 degrees.  Monday a high of 32 degrees followed by more snow and colder on Tuesday and Wednesday.

Yeah, I vote that I stop looking at them.  Especially since both skelemingoes are finally visible in the garden under the tulip poplar.

HPIM3660Here’s one today.

HPIM3641Here’s the same one a few days ago.

No, I’m not trading in my van already.

I keep getting calls from the dealership, “Trade in your van for a new model today!”

     “No.”

     “Why not?”

“It is completely paid for and hasn’t even got a thousand miles on it yet.”  Yeah, yeah.  I know, I’ve had it two years, but I honestly don’t get out much. LOL!

I love my van, I will probably be driving this van for the rest of my life.  They don’t get it.  😀

The snow is still here…and now we’ve added fog.

Pictures!

Mapping out the Spring projects.

I’d be delighted if I could get half of the stuff done I need to do out in the yard and in the house. Once the ground thaws I’ll need to begin to fill in the pond, level and grade the yard away from the house, and start building raised beds.

I will put down a rather large patio area to keep the dogs and The Curmudgeon from tracking in mud all the time. I want raised beds to make it easier to enjoy my gardening. All I need left in grass is an area big enough to play a rousing game of Bocce.

I will miss our pond but it is time to move on and make things easier for ourselves.

Inside the house, I need to get moving on painting the entire interior.  Ah yes, now all I need find is the energy to do all of this or volunteers to help me.

Come on March!

Whoohoo, we hit 44 degrees today!  A few more days of this, and we might actually be able to see some of my taller garden plants.  😀

Friday we’re supposed to go as high as 49 degrees and Saturday we should top out at 52. If only it will stay that way for a while. Unfortunately, February will end on low temperatures in the 20’s.

Please March hurry and grace us with your warmth, green beer, and ugh my birthday.

HPIM3641I have two skelemingoes, this is the only one you can see. I wonder how many days until both are fully visible again. Any guesses?

Has anyone seen Spring? Please send her our way.

HPIM3647     Overnight 4 more inches of snow arrived.  Forecast for Wednesday is rain and ice.  Do we look as though we need more crap?

You have to be EFFING kidding me!

HPIM3653     Our street finally gets cleared when we get this notice:

..WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY REMAINS IN EFFECT FROM 3 AM TO 1 PM EST TUESDAY…

* ACCUMULATIONS…SNOW ACCUMULATION OF 3 TO 4 INCHES…EXCEPT 4 TO 6 INCHES ACROSS HIGHER TERRAIN LOCATIONS ACROSS THE NORTHERN TIER OF THE POCONOS AND NORTHERN NEW JERSEY.

* TIMING…SNOW SHOULD COME IN RAPIDLY OVERNIGHT AND FALL MODERATE TO HEAVY AT TIMES THROUGHOUT THE MORNING COMMUTE. SNOW SHOULD END CLOSE TO NOON ON TUESDAY.

* IMPACTS…ONE INCH PER HOUR SNOWFALL RATES ARE LIKELY TO OCCUR DURING THE MORNING COMMUTE. THIS WILL MAKE DRIVING AND PLOWING DIFFICULT. THE ADDITIONAL SNOW WILL CAUSE MORE STRAIN ON WEAKENED STRUCTURES INCREASING THE CHANCES FOR COLLAPSES. ISOLATED POWER OUTAGES ARE POSSIBLE.

* TEMPERATURES…IN THE MID 20S  TO AROUND 30 DEGREES WHILE ITS SNOWING… RISING ABOVE FREEZING LATER IN THE DAY  TUESDAY… EXCEPT IN THE POCONOS.

* VISIBILITIES…LESS THAN HALF A MILE AT TIMES.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS…

A WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY MEANS THAT PERIODS OF SNOW. WILL CAUSE TRAVEL DIFFICULTIES. BE PREPARED FOR SLIPPERY ROADS AND LIMITED VISIBILITIES…AND USE CAUTION WHILE DRIVING. GIVE YOURSELF MORE TIME TO REACH YOUR DESTINATION ON TUESDAY MORNING. DOUBLING OF COMMUTING TIMES IS NOT OUT OF THE QUESTION. DO NOT TAILGATE.

Yes, another ‘weather’ post.

They didn’t get our street cleared of snow yesterday, instead they changed the no parking this street signs to today.  We’ll see what happens.  I for one would not be unhappy to wake to the noise of snowplows on our street.

We’ve sort of kept count and there have been over 20 cars stuck in the snow and ice out front over the last few days.  If you don’t have to, don’t drive down our street!  <Giggle>  I even canceled my dentist appointment because the street is THAT bad.

Listening to another car spinning its tires out front.  Really?  You haven’t heard how bad this street is?

HPIM3632Before the last storm…
